Reading at Orston Primary School

Developing a love of reading at Orston Primary School:

Reading Scheme

As with our phonics resources we do not use only one scheme, we use the best of many. Our books are banded into colour bands, which match the child’s reading levels. We have books from the following schemes and hundreds of individual publications for children to read:
- Oxford Reading Tree (5 different schemes by this publisher)
- Pearson Phonics Bug
- Rising Stars
- Ginn Reading Progress: Reading 360
- Walkers Stories
- Barrington Stoke

The children are encouraged to develop a love of reading by reading a wide range of genres of reading material. This love of reading is embedded in weekly guided reading sessions, independent reading and reading at home. There is a strong link with parents and we encourage children to read at home to an adult as much as possible.
